Discovery of most places and monuments of interest in Toulouse

It's an urban route, you will have to be careful all along because you will cross many busy roads.
This route offers a loop discovery of most places of interest in Toulouse in 12km.
The starting point chosen is the emblem of Toulouse with its Place du Capitole, but since this route is a loop, you can start from wherever you want.

  • From Place du Capitole start towards Place Wilson.
  • In the Garden behind the Capitole admire the building which now houses the Tourist Office.
    Continue toward Wilson square before heading to the Jean Jaurès walk.
  • This walk, transformed at the end of 2019, gave it the look of the Ramblas of Barcelona.
  • Continue to climb, heading towards the Canal du Midi, in front of you stands the imposing José Cabanis media library.
    Pass in front of the statue of Pierre-Paul Riquet, to whom we owe the construction of the Canal du Midi which made it possible to connect the Garonne to the Mediterranean Sea and turn right along the Canal.
  • Along the Canal du Midi, you will pass under 2 bridges before turning right on Place Saint-Aubin.
  • On this square stands the Saint-Aubin church, at the end of the square, turn left towards Place Dupuy.
  • At Place Dupuy, you can see the Halle aux grains on your left.
  • Take the direction of rue de Metz and Esquirol to admire the imposing Augustins museum.
  • At the museum, take the narrow Arts street which is opposite. At the corner with Croix-Baragnon street, you can see a half-timbered house from the 16th century.
  • Then take right towards Saint-Etienne Cathedral. Then join the François Verdier walk. Be careful when crossing the roundabout.
  • You can enter the Grand-Rond garden through the door at the gate.
    Take the opportunity to take a tour of the garden before finding a small walkway on the right that will allow you to cross safely.
  • Take also advantage of the Plants garden calm before joining the Jules Guesde walk.
  • Go along the tram tracks, take advantage of the pedestrian crossings and traffic lights at the metro "palais de justice" to cross the road to the right.
  • Then turn right onto the street which descends towards the towing bridge of Tounis. Then take Garonette avenue and after 400m, climb the stairs on the right.
  • Continue the street until the church of Dalbade. Then turn around, retrace your steps but instead of going back down the stairs, cross the bridge.
    Cross the Tounis quay and descend the stairs to go on the banks of the Garonne river. Take to the right.
  • Just after the bridge you will have a beautiful view on the left on the Hôtel-Dieu, turn around to admire the whole with the bridge.
    You are now on the Daurade quay with its small garden, and on the left you can see the old Grave hospital. Go up to the right on Place de la Daurade and turn left just after the entrance to Fermat secondary school.
  • At the end of the street, you can see the Jacobin monastery. Take the street on the right, then turn right and immediately left into Antoine Deville street.
  • Take the first street on the left to go to the University garden.
  • Then through the shaded gardens, reach the famous Saint-Pierre square, the Mecca of festive activity in Toulouse.
    Continue along the Garonne river, but this time with an overview.
  • You will have a nice view of the old Grave hospital at the Brienne canal lock, go down to the right bank of the canal.
  • This part, on a shaded path is very pleasant in summer, sheltered from cars. Continue straight on, passing under a small bridge.
  • At the next bridge, go up to the right, cross the road, then at the end cross Lascrosses boulevard. Enter the Compans-Caffarelli garden and if you have time do not hesitate to take a look at the Japanese garden, just pay attention to the hours to be sure that it's open. Free entry.
    Then retrace your steps to cross Lascrosses boulevard. Head through the streets towards Saint-Sernin square.
  • Go around the square to admire the Saint-Sernin Basilica before entering the Taur street.
  • You are almost there, at the end of the street you will reach your starting point, Capitole square.
