Discovery of Garonne river's banks, the lateral Canal and Sesquieres leisure park in Toulouse

The route is generally quite shaded and the presence of water with the Garonne river and the lateral Canal make it easier to be done even in hot weather.
Mostly on paths and cycle paths far from cars, stay alert during the few road crossings you will have to do.
Since this route is a loop it can be started from anywhere. If you want to go to the start by car, I advise you to start from the "port de l'embouchure", there is a small free parking where there are often places available.

  • From the "port de l'embouchure" from which start the Canal du Midi (east) leaves, the Brienne Canal (south-east), take the lateral canal (north), find a passage on the left to pass under the first bridge and avoid having to cross a busy road.
After the bridge, turn right and then left to find yourself on the right side of the lateral canal, much more pleasant because it's a little further from the ring road.
  • You will go along the barges which are permanently on this part of the canal before joining a more shaded part.
  • This straight part is very popular with walkers, runners and cyclists. All along, on the walls on the right, Street Art decorates the old walls, more or less well :).
You will continue to follow the canal, pass under 2 bridges and 1 footbridge. Before arriving at a rowing club.
Once on the small road, turn left and then right to change sides and continue along the canal.
Go under 2 bridges and take the path on the left to reach the leisure center.
  • Once in the Sesquieres leisure park, reach the lakeside and turn left to start going around the lake.
After about 1.5km around the lake, take a path on the left which joins the Garonne river.
  • This part at the Garonne river's bank is a very shaded path, one barely discerns the proximity of the water.
Continue straight ahead to a restaurant and a bridge, turn left and cross the road to reach the dike opposite.
  • This part is less shaded and the path has become bitumen. You overlook the Garonne river on your right.
  • You are almost there, before arriving at the twin bridges, go down to the left and turn left on the road, then, as soon as you can, cross to pass on the bike path on the right.
At the traffic light, follow the cycle path on the right which passes under a bridge and allows you to reach your starting point, the "port de l'embouchure".
