Description
The Medoc marathon, which starts in Pauillac, near Bordeaux, is no longer to be presented. The particularity of this marathon is to offer, in a very friendly atmosphere, wine tastings in several Medoc chateaux (around twenty).
My race
I ran this marathon in a particular context because 3 weeks before I had a slight sprain in my right ankle. So I stopped training 3 weeks before to give my ankle time to heal.
Even if I don't intend to beat my personal best, my ankle will still have to hold the 42.195 km between the start and the finish.
On Saturday September 13th, the weather is good, it's slightly cold, but the temperature will gradually rise.
The theme chosen this year 2014 for disguise is "the carnivals of the world".
I arrive at Pauillac early enough to be able to park the car easily and take advantage of the pre-race which is simply magical.
I went for a walk to look at all the runner's disguises, some are really very elaborate, I wonder how they will be able to run with them, and others are very light, like mine (a simple Tahitian skirt around the waist).
The start is given, I would take several minutes to cross the starting line, fireworks explode, good humor reigns.
We arrive fairly quickly at the first food supply of the 3rd km which offers orange juice and pastries, I do not stop there.
We run along the Garonne river and then go into the land with the first castle in sight at km 5.
I skip this first wine supply, but I taste the cookies.
The course is really nice, alternating road and path with passages in the middle of the vineyards.
I will taste the first glass of wine in the 7th km, it was exquisite and finally I was apprehensive to know how my stomach would handle it and it's doing very well.
Over the entire route, I only tasted 5 or 6 castles in the twenties possible.
However, I tasted the oysters, the rib steak and the ice cream. It’s a great experience.
The lack of training is felt from the 25th km, from that moment I reduce my pace and I walk in the climbs.
I enjoy and take a lot of photos of the different castles crossed.
I complete the marathon in 4h20', really happy with this morning. I receive a very beautiful medal, a bottle of wine and 2 glasses serigraphed with the effigy of the Medoc marathon.
And it doesn't stop there, the food supplies at the finish line is simply enormous !!!
If you have the opportunity to run it, don't hesitate for a second, and if you can go with friends, it's even better.
